There are many causes of shoulder joint pain. Your shoulder is a ball and socket joint that is necessary for a wide variety of movements, from very small movements to large wide range movements. Most of the time you do not think much about the shoulder joint, that is until pain interrupts your natural usage.

At this point, you suddenly become quite aware of just how necessary proper shoulder joint function is to your daily life. Shoulder and Arm Pain can come from any anatomical structure within the joint. Another common source is the neck in the form of a herniated disc or pinched nerve.

Less common sources of a painful shoulder are carpal tunnel syndrome (only in severe cases), an irritated diaphragm, or from a heart attack. Most commonly the shoulder itself is the culprit. There are some tell-tale signs to watch for and these include pain when lying on the shoulder, pain with overhead activities and general stiffness and loss of motion.
