Benefits of Reflexology for Fertility

Reflexology is a combination of applying pressure to and massaging certain areas of the body. More commonly known for its general healing and ability to relieve stress and tension, there are many different styles of reflexology, all with their own benefits.

Reflexology is a complementary therapy that works with the reflex points of the body. Each point corresponds with different organs of the body, each with their own benefits. Most commonly known as foot reflexology, but reflexology can also be performed on the hands, the face, or the ears.

Fertility reflexology works on all reflexes to encourage body’s equilibrium (balance), however, each treatment focuses on certain points, depending on the day of the woman’s cycle, or if there are any other issues that need to be addressed, such as stress or digestive issues.

Various techniques may be used depending on practitioner’s skills, training and experience.

Reflexology for fertility often helps to regulate periods, lower stress levels, promote the feeling of self-worth and manage feelings of anxiety. For some, sessions are also seen as a safe place and time to talk about fertility worries or about IVF treatment.

Fertility reflexology starts with a consultation. The discussion will cover many areas of life that may affect fertility, such as stress, health issues including digestive health, and history of fertility problems, regularity of menstrual cycle. Treatment will take into account the woman’s cycle, as each phase is different. The points that are worked and the effects of treatment will vary depending on the point of the woman’s cycle.

Fertility reflexology is safe and can be used as a tool for people who are trying to conceive naturally, or those who are undergoing IVF. The majority of the clients are women, but it is suitable for men too. Ideally, weekly treatment for the first four weeks is recommended, and fortnightly treatments thereafter. However, I always recommend clients to find their own pattern that fits their lives and budget, to avoid creating more stress.

Reflexology is a natural healing art and is the practice of applying pressure to specific points on the feet to stimulate the body’s own healing system.
