Naturopathic medicine is based on the belief that the human body has an innate healing ability. Naturopathic doctors seek to enhance the body’s ability to ward off and combat disease by crafting comprehensive treatment plans that blend the best of modern medical science and traditional natural medicine to treat disease and restore health.
Naturopathic treatment is individually based- every individual is treated uniquely. A person’s illness, medical history, habits, lifestyle and emotional state of mind is taken into account before a treatment plan is devised.
Achieve better health by simplifying your lifestyle:
1. BE ACTIVE: Exercise 30 minutes a day, 5 days per week. The 30 minutes can be broken up into smaller chunks, such as 15 minutes twice a day or 10 minutes three times a day. Jogging, brisk walking, swimming, cycling, resistance training are all great ways to stay in shape and keep your heart healthy.
2. RELAX: Take 10 minutes out of your day for a little deep breathing, or take 5 deep breaths 3 times a day. Breath in for 3 seconds, hold for 7 seconds, and exhale for 8 seconds. Deep breathing can have a profound impact on blood pressure by increasing blood oxygen levels and relieving tension. As well, ensure that you get at least 7 hours of sleep for at everyday.
3. DRINK SMART: Cut back on coffee and consider switching to green tea. Drink water instead of pop. Decrease the amount of processed and sweet foods you consume.
4. EAT WELL: Have four servings of fruits and vegetables everyday including ‘A cup of a soy source like edamame. Snack on 14 to 28 almonds or walnuts per day.
